There are numerous free PDF viewers out there that you can download and use to open and read PDF files in various types of devices. Not many of them, however, offer you the possibility to create new PDF files and share them with your colleagues using a cloud-based service – ConnectedPDF. Actually, Foxit Reader is the only PDF viewer that allows you to do this, together with a number of other interesting features.

Wrapped up in an interface that unashamedly resembles that of Microsoft Word, Foxit Reader includes most of the functionality that you will find in Adobe Acrobat Reader DC – the reference for all free PDF readers in the market – and then some. Thus, all the basic viewing and editing features are there – you can rotate the pages, highlight text, add bookmarks, annotate images, insert audio and video files, sign PDFs securely, etc. But together with the usual suspects, Foxit Reader offers a couple of features that make it clearly stand out from its competitors.

First, Foxit’s program can create PDFs not only using other text-based documents as source, but it can also create new PDFs via your scanner. This extra functionality – as compared with Adobe’s tool – would be perfect if only it would come with OCR support, so that we could reuse the scanned text, reflow and reformat it, and allow persons with a print disability to access the contents of the file using a screen reader.

Secondly, with this tool you can co-work and share your PDFs with your colleagues via the cloud in a secure and convenient way. ConnectedPDF will let you grant or deny access to your documents to other users, track all changes, perform connected reviews, etc. It integrates with Google Drive, Dropbox, Alfresco, SharePoint, and Box, let you share your files in the most convenient way. You can then annotate and comment on your PDF and let others to do so, and forget to send your shared PDFs back and forth via e-mail.

Thus, Foxit Reader is not only attractive, efficient, and free – it takes PDF viewing and reading to the next level thanks to its cloud-based functionality and its expanded PDF creation capabilities.
